The term sociology was coined by Auguste Comte . Comte proposed positivism , advocating scientific methods to study society. Sociology examines patterns of social behavior rather than individual actions alone. Society is a network of relationships among individuals. Culture includes beliefs, values, norms, language, and symbols shared by a group. Norms regulate social behavior and maintain order. Values represent collective ideas of what is desirable.
